Cosmetic Dentistry
What is the procedure?
There are many cosmetic dentistry treatments available, including tooth straightening, tooth bleaching, dental implants, dentures and porcelain veneers. The type of procedure, and the time that the procedure takes, varies enormously depending on what treatment the patient chooses. Tooth bleaching, for instance, can take around one hour, whereas dental implants take longer and require a local anaesthetic.
Who is it meant for?
The procedure is meant for anyone who cares about the appearance of their teeth - and cosmetic dentistry is becoming increasingly popular. Patients report being able to smile and laugh more confidently, as well as having increased confidence from an improved appearance. With implants and dentures, single or multiple teeth can be replaced.
Benefits and risks
The benefits of cosmetic dentistry are exactly that - cosmetic - though many people choose to have dental implants or dentures fitted for more practical reasons such as broken or weak teeth. There are few serious risks involved; some patients have complained that the bleaching process can leave a nasty taste in the mouth and the bleach needs to be kept away from the gums. Patients need to be aware that there are no 'lifetime guarantees' with cosmetic dentistry and that the treatment may not last for ever.
Price range
From £300 for tooth whitening to £2,000 per tooth for dental implants
